Goldenseal, a Powerhouse for the Immune System
Antibacterial and Antiviral: Goldenseal has amazing ability to stimulate the body’s own immunity. Goldenseal has powerful antibacterial properties because it targets the mucous membranes, addressing issues such as upper respiratory infections, dental infections, conjunctivitis, sinusitis, allergies, urinary tract infections, and bacterial diarrhea. It successfully combats bacteria H Pylori which causes bacterial ulcers. Goldenseal can be used as an antibiotic.
Goldenseal is also known to have powerful antiviral effects when used internally against colds and flus. Also commonly used to help with cold sores and herpes lesions and used as a gargle or topical wash.
Anti-fungal - Goldenseal is known to be a powerful ally against Candida overgrowth and other forms of fungal infections. Goldenseal is reported to curtail fungal growth very quickly. In order for Candida to not adapt to the antiviral properties of Goldenseal, use Goldenseal “two weeks on and two weeks off.” Use a different anti-fungal supplement for two weeks on a rotational basis.
Goldenseal helps as a digestive aid and a liver supporter. It stimulates the production of bile, which makes it helpful in digesting fats and as a general digestive aid. By stimulating bile production, it addresses liver and gallbladder issues. Goldenseal also stimulates digestion and appetite.
Goldenseal lowers blood sugars and stimulates beta cells of the pancreas by lowering blood glucose levels, increasing insulin sensitivity and supporting the pancreas. Blood glucose levels stay lower when using Goldenseal on a regular basis.

The tincture is most often recommended by medicinal herbalists, as it provides a more concentrated dose and is absorbed more easily. To take goldenseal tincture, you will need to first dilute a few drops in water and drink 1-3 times per day. Herbal tinctures are usually sold with a dropper, so it’s easy to measure the exact amount for each dose.
